eWeek, Redmond Magazine (and others) announced this week that Microsoft will be discontinuing support for Windows Live One Care. Although not used in the corporate setting, Live One Care is what I have been using it on my personal laptop for the past 15 months. Live One Care will be sold until June 30, 2009.
Microsoft is not out of the Antivirus business, though. By the end of 2009, Microsoft will release a free antivirus program, code named “Morro.” Yes, that is right, free.
My only concern is that my Live One Care subscription ends on August 2009. Will Morro be available? Will I be a sitting duck for viruses until Morro is released? Or will I have to buy antivirus from another vendor?

Not sure when your article was writen, but live care ends tomorrow – April 30, 2009. Microsoft sent us notice TODAY – thanks for the one day notice Microsoft. They are really leaving their customers high and dry with the short notice.

I am currently a user of Live One Care and I have not received a notice similar to what you describe. The end date mentioned in this article is the last day that Microsoft will sell the software. My understanding is that if you have a Live One Care subscription, it is good until the subscription’s expiration date. So even if you bought and activated Live One Care on June 30, 2009 it would still be good until June 30, 2010.
I just checked and Microsoft is still selling Live One Care in their online store.
Whattha? My OneCare just did its yearly auto update and the subscription has been debited from my acct!? Is there seriously no back-up now for something I just paid for????
worried..
my one care trial doest work .it wont update ,it tells it must close.whats up with that?
Same problem,my subscription is good thru aug 28 2009.
Do I go go thruogh the renewall prompt I’m getting on Live Oncare, or what? Please somebody simplify this.
This explains why I could not contact Live One Care regarding a virus (Cyber Security) that hit my computer. I still have time left on my subscription and I assume there will be no rebate.
i just installed windows 7 ultimate, now my live one care has dissappeared, and i have no viris protection. help
Mary,
Live One Care was not updated for Windows 7 and is incompatible. I would recommend that you download Microsoft Security Essentials which is a free antivirus program. You may download it here:
